What Does This Spinal X-ray Test Report For Neck Pain Indicate?

Hi Doctor, My name is Christina, I have neck pain. The X-ray result is Cervical Spine with Obliques: There is approximately 3mm of retrolisthesis of Cr on C6. There is also mild degenerative change at this level. No fractures or suspicious bony lessions. The Remainder the disc space heights are maintained. no bony neural oraminal stenosis. The dens is normally situated between the lateral masses of C1. I have neck pain and this cause me to wake up in the morning and have a heart beats and sweating. can you explain what this means. Do I need to worry about this at all? Will it get worse in the later years?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history and report of the X-rays of cervical spine.
The report is as follows with an appropriate discussion:
There is approximately 3mm of retrolisthesis of C5 on C6 > this means that the cervical vertebra number 5 is a bit behind 6 th vertebra by 3 mm.
There is also mild degenerative change at this level means the normal intensity if the area is lost showing rarefaction or so.
No fractures or suspicious bony lesions is self explanatory.
The Remainder the disc space heights are maintained. Normal.
No bony neural foraminal stenosis means the holes that allow the nerves are normal.
The dens is normally situated between the lateral masses of C1, this too is self explanatory being normal at the uppermost level.
Having pain in neck , sweating and feeling heart beets can be related to the stress and anxiety or can be due to local muscle spasm.
Cardiac cause has to be ruled out by EKG and other cardiac evaluation.
Take an opinion of a Neurologist as well as Neurosurgeon to ascertain the diagnosis.
The symptomatic, supportive and definitive management depends upon the investigations and clinical findings.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
