Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello,I am a 58 year old woman and recently I was told there there is excessive protein in my urine. For the past year and a half my creatinine level has been 1.33. My doctor recommended that I see a nephrologist to address the problem. So ,I did see one. The doctor suggested that I get a urine test done. The protein level was over 15,000- no kidding. The doctor then asked me to get a 24 hour urine collection test done. The protein level now showed 8,000. Now the doctor has advised me to get a biopsy done. Since biopsy is an invasive procedure, I am a little worried about it. Please advise as to what I should do. Please note that I have no blood pressure issues and I am not diabetic. I got an ultrasound of the kidney done in Oct. 2014 and the results were normal. That is why I am a little confused. A response from you would be appreciated.
1. Since healthy kidney doesn't allow protein to pass through thus presence of preoteinuria indicates kidney disease.
2. Since diabetes and high blood pressure are excluded, look for risk factors like Obesity, amy family history, age above 65, use of any medicines, trauma, infection or Immune disorder.
3. Since you have got Nephrologist opinion thus remin under his regular supervision and go for biopsy but at the same time check with a Medicine specialist for any Immune system related disease.
4. Treatment will depend after identifying and managing its underlying cause.
5. Since there ia proteinuria, take plenty of Daals, sprouted pulses, beans, soya beans, milk and milk products.
