What Does This Thyroid Panel Test Report Signify?

i am 18 years old and had blood work done and found out I have a thyroid problem. My doctor ran the following tests and included are my results: THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 6 IU/mL, TSH W/REFLEX TO FT4     5.13 mIU/L, T4, FREE     0.9 ng/dL I was wondering if I should look into getting a Free T3 test done as well as what your opinion would be on treatment. I understand you can not give me a treatment ,but I just want options when I go back to talk to my physician.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Reading your test results you are probably having hyperthyroidism.

There is no need to test T3 because a low T4 and a high TSH is enough to determine hypothyroidism.

Also, you can do an ultrasound of the thyroid.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
