What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

i had my checked up with my thyroid because i felt a lump on my left side of my thyroid gland. An ultrasound was done, My right and left thyroid lobes measured 4.06x 1.69x 2.8cm and 3.84x1.84x1.92cm. the parenchymal pattern is heterogenous and coarsened. there is a hyphoechoicnodule seen in the left lobe measuring 2.08x1.14cm. No calcifications noted. The isthmus is not thickened. No lesions are seen. The surrounding vascular and soft tissues are unremarkable. My doctor told me to have my blood test.

Hi,

Okay, the doctor seems right. So, the thyroid size is about average. It might be a bit thick, and irregular ALL OVER. this might not be abnormal or it might be inflamed from an autoimmune disease but this is not what would be seen with cancer.

Cancer would be a solid lump that is dense (hyper echogenic) it would be irregular. It would be invading, it would have calcifications. This is what they are noting that is not there and autoimmune disease or thyroid stimulation by anything else may cause this. Then the thyroid hormone blood tests are going to be way off which is why the doctor had the blood test.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
