What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Hi, My elderly mother had an ultrasound, which showed .8 cm echogenic focus at the lower pole of her right kidney. She is not able to speak, so it is difficult to determine if she is in pain. Doctor said we may want to consider a CAT scan. Could this be a kidney stone?

Not necessarily stone but it can be stone. Other causes can be cyst or mass. It needs to be further investigated as this echogenic focus is 0.8 cm whose details can’t be fully deciphered by ultrasound alone. There you need further investigation in the form of CT scan, intravenous pyelography, serum creatinine, blood urea and routine examination of urine. These are basic investigation which I would like to suggest you for exact diagnosis of lower pole kidney 0.8 cm focus.
We will suggest you further after getting reports of above test. You can write result of reports on this portal. We shall guide you for further course of action.
I hope this information will help you. I will be happy if you ask another question
