hi doctor i am fely from philippines i am post nephrectomy in my right kidney almost 7 years now i always do lab test ang u/s regularly and monitor my blood pressureas my doctor advised my last ultrasound result was i have a 0.48cm echogeneic focus i the superior pole of my left kidney, is it dangerous and can damage my kidney? what can u advise me?
As per my clinical experience, the echogenic foci on the remaining sole kidney does not be taken as granted for non specific lesion. There can be possible issue of tumor occurrence over the remaining kidney, supra renal mass or else. Though the biopsy is the best diagnostic test of evaluation, best initial test would be an Intravenous pyelography with urograffin contrast if the creatinine level is well below 1.2 mg/dl.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
