Hello,

Fetal pole is a term that is used for the developing baby when becomes visible inside the gestational sac on an early pregnancy ultrasound. Is the first visible sign of a developing embryo.

The fetal pole is usually seen at 8 weeks with abdominal ultrasound, and between 5 to 6 weeks of gestational age with vaginal ultrasound imaging.

However it is normal for the fetal pole to not be visible until 9 weeks of gestational age.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mersi
