I carried out a widal test today and the result given me read thus O H s. typhi 1:160 1:320 s. Paratyphi A 1:160 1:160 s. Paratyphi B 1:160 1:80 s. Paratyphi C 1:80 1:40 What does this translate to?
Hello and welcome to HCM, The test performed is widal test. The antibody titres against Salmonella typhi and paratyplhi are measured. Except Salmonella paratyphi C all are 1:160 suggesting presence of typhoid or enteric fever. Although, increasing titres should be determined and increasing titre is more suggestive of enteric fever, however, the current report is also indicative of typhoid fever. I suggest you to consult your physician for review of report and to start treatment at the earliest.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
