Hi sir, I want to know about the titre numerical used for the widal test. It is said that greater than 1:160 is significant, I want to know what does it mean? I mean greater than 1:160 titre means 1:150, 1:140, and so on or it actually means 1:170, 1:180 and so on. Please sir make me clear about it. Thank you
Hello dear Understand your concern Widal test cut off value is 1:160. It means any titre greater than Typhi O, 1: 160 (1:170, 1:180) suggest active typhoid infection. But in early day of fever (with in 7 days), value like 1:80, 1:100, 1:150, 1:140 suggest suspected typhoid fever. It should be repeat after 1 week of fever. In this type of case antibody should be started after consulting the doctor. Proper rest, avoid outside food, maintain hydration and anti pyretic for fever should be advisable. Hope this will help you
