Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! I went for a routine chest Xray, the results-some interstitial lung changes in the dependent lung zones bilaterally, no consolidation or pleural effusions-- conclusion accentuated dependent lung markings bilateral. no acute pulmonary pathology is seen. How ever consideration might be given to high resolution ct of the thorax. I am 64 year old male , who has worked in construction. I feel well, but cough a little. I m afraid if I have asbestos cancer?
Welcome to healthcaremagic. Reading your XRay reports shows that there is nothing serious with your lungs, however, CT scan is being suggested due to these markings that at the lower lobes of both lungs. Now to attack the scenarios. 1. Asbestosis could be a posibility especially if you are a roofer and plumber from your teenage years. 2. Mesothelioma is as a result of asbestos exposure, again assuming that you were exposed in your teens to 20's, these days there are very strict environmental laws to prevent exposure. Mesothelioma appears after 30 years or so after exposure to asbestos. 3. This could be granulomatous changes due to dust exposure. The cough you have is plausible in any of these cases.
Good luck, I would follow up with a CT as suggested to put things to rest so to speak.
