What Does Tight Sensation In The Chest Indicate?

The last few days I’ve had a tightness of the chest which comes and goes. I suspect it could be anxiety due to a few blood test results showing high sugar levels, and a GTT showing possible Type 2. I’m a Pilot, and the implications for career as well as health are massive. I also have lots of other stressors just now (moving country/job) But part of my possible T2 diagnosis is a new found exercise regime, and it seems this could also be a factor. I had a tightness in the chest this afternoon after no exercise though, but it went after a glass or two of red... does heart related tightness go after alcohol? I suspect the relaxation I discovered could mean it’s just anxiety/muscular.

Hi,

As per your clinical history, you may be right from your own guessing but medical science need evidence only and you are a pilot so please follow like this-

1) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [Cardiologist] and do few investigations like ECG, ECHO, a Blood test for all cardiac enzymes, Coronary angiography and Cardiac computerized tomography (CT) scan.

2) Check your blood lipid profile and check [ASVSD] status now and talk with your Doctor whether you need [statin ] now or not.

3) Do take right treatment after investigations report only.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this-

1) Try to avoid smoking.

2) Monitoring and controlling other health conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes and take regular medicines.

3) Try to eat a healthy diet. Discuss with your Dietitian to make a chart.

4) Increase your physical activity after you get your investigation report only.

5) Try to maintain a healthy weight.

6) Make a plan for reducing your stress level.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
