What Does Tightness In Throat Indicate?

I have been experiencing tightness in my throat. Feels like my food gets stuck at times. I am attributing it to stress bc I am a realtor and also personal issues I am dealing with. I was dx with global hysteria years ago and it lasted about a week. Very uncomfortable at times. Seems to be relieved when I drink water.

Hello thanks for writing in.
I understand your concern. You have a dysphagia- difficulty swallowing for solids.
Before you attribute it to any psychogenic causes, I would recommend a consult with a Gastroenterologist/Physician to rule out any obstructive issues, especially if the difficulty is persistent.
A test called Barium swallow is commonly recommended for dysphagia- where xrays are taken of the foodpipe after drinking a liquid.
There are numerous causes of dysphagia, and treatment varies with the cause. Your doctor can take it further from there.
Hope this helps.
Take care n do write in for any further questions.
