What Does Ultrasound Report Suggest?

Hello im 24 weeks and 6 days now i had my ultrasound yesterday. The findings was posterior horn of the lateral ventricle is slightly dilated. 9.6-11.6 mm. What is it? We were worried to hear that finding. The doctor said also to have a repeat scan after 1 month.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The ventricular measurement in the fetus is a highly debatable topic. There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding the measurements and even a slight error can give a falsely high reading, besides most doctors prefer to record the higher reading instead of going for the lower one. The position of ventricular measurement is best taken at the atrium. I suggest you do not panic and get the ventricle measured once again at 28 weeks. This will give a more stable measurement and the width of the ventricle at the atrium is most important. In the absence of any major anomalies in the brain, your babys brain is mostlikely normal.
