What Does White Discoloration In The Toes Indicate?

My father is 76 years old he just asked me to find out if he needs to worry about his toes. When he lays down they are a white color when he gets up to walk around they get darker in color red or blue. He doesn t have any pain or numbness just looks like something is wrong. It is just on the two big toes not the rest of the foot. Thank you, Jodie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Toes that are white and then turns blue and red is a typical picture of rhenoid phenomenon that is a little spasm in the vessels.

Many times it not a serious problem but few times it may be associated with other diseases like RA, SLE etc.

So I understand it's better to have an appointment with his doctor just to be sure that every thing is fine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
