What Does White Spots In Labia Majora Imply ?

Hi. When I pull back my labia majora I have white spots. I first noticed them 5 years ago. I went to a doctor and they took swabs and urine tests and said it is likely to be hair follicles which I don't think it is. They said if I don't hear anything then nothing is wrong basically. 5 years on I still have them and they don't bother me but wanted to know what they were? Also I started feeling a bit itchy down there the last few days so I had a look and my labia minora is purple coloured. Is this normal? I am currently on my period. Thanks
