What Does Yellow Discoloration On The Nails Indicate?

I recently had a small area of fungus under the left great toe which cleared (area still growing out of nail). The nail bed was normal until 10 weeks ago when I developed soreness, redness , slight edema and pain of the left great toe. That cleared after a week of using a homeopathic oil of oregano, peppermint and tea tree oil. Now I noticed about 6 weeks ago a yellow area growing out of the nail bed. My toe is numb, but I do have a bunion x 30 years. I don't know what the partial yellow discoloration nail is from.

Thanks for contacting with your health concern.

1. Since there is a history of fungal infection and you have noticed [in coming weeks] the same yellow area thus it could be a recurrence of the same [toenail fungus], but please exclude certain conditions like diabetes, circulation problem/weak immune system or yellow nail syndrome, lymphedema which helps in the proliferation of repeated fungal infections.

PS. consult or check your symptoms with a podiatrist who will determine the proper treatment method based on the severity and extent of infection [if any]

2. As there is history of foot disorder [bunion] which might be causing be causing repeated microtrauma as a result body is responsing itslef by building up callus [hyperkeratinization], so to determine whether nail has fungus or keratin a biopsy can be performed.

PS. A Podiatrist will not just focus on the nail condition butwill look at the entire foot for the root of the problem since making the correct diagnosis will lead to a higher chance of success.
