What Does" 8 Week Size Gestational Sac With No Fetal Pole & A Possible Collapsed Yolk Sac " Suggest?

A 40-year-old woman who is ten weeks pregnant by her dates complains of some 'per vaginal spotting'. The ultrasound scan is essentially unchanged compared with the scan done 10 days ago. It shows an eight week size gestational sac with no fetal pole and a possible collapsed yolk sac

Dear member,
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
The ultrasound at 8 week should always show a embryo with good fetal heart activity.
A collapsed yolk sac shows that there is no viable pregnancy and there is no point in continuing the pregnancy.
This is called a missed abortion. This pregnancy needs to be terminated.
Please upload report if you have any query.
Thanks
Dr Bhagyashree.
