What Dose This MRI Report Indicate?

I have myelomacia at c6-7 showing on MRI I m 44 yr old female with two previous fusions at c4-5 and c5-6. I m seeing my surgeon on Monday the 27th. I m scared to death that this means I m inevitably going to be paralyzed. I don t like what I m reading online. I m a very active person playing sports with kids, working out etc. I ve been having symptoms for past month getting worse with numbness in right hand depending on position I m in and pain throughout neck and shoulder region. Is having another surgery an option to help me? Or is that word really just a way of saying life as you know it is over?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the numbness in the right hand depending upon the position means that there is nerve compression at brachial plexus or cervical level most likely.

* There are various treatment options available for the treatment of the same before surgery as

- nerve ablation with laser

- assisted physiotherapy

- postural exercises

- wax bath and ultrasound laser

- interventional pain management modality with epidural analgesia

- neuro protective molecules

- immunotherapy.

* However, a study of MRI plates is vital before commenting further in this regard and I would be eager to readdress the issue once I get the same during follow up discussion period.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
