What Happens If Battery Of Pacemaker Gets Low?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...

My 90 year old father is completely pacemaker dependent, but has had a stroke, is wheelchair bound and now has dementia. Difficult to get him to a cardiologist office. What will happen to him if the battery gets low?

Hi,

There is a possibility of a low battery causing shortness of breath or other symptoms.

When the battery power reaches a certain level known as EOL (End of Life), the PM goes into ERM (Elective Replacement Mode) or one called a VVI. There is enough battery power left to safely operate the PM for at least three months.

During this time period, you may change the pacemaker battery.

I think I have answered your question. If you have more questions feel free to ask.
