What Happens If The Colon Is Punctured During A Colonoscopy?

I had my large intestine punctured from a colonoscopy. I was rushed to surgery about midnight on apr. 22 It was on my transverse colon. They said is was small and so it was stitched up. Was hospitalized for about 6 days and sent home. I have had ulcerative colitis for many yrs. Am 7o yrs old. I have had nothing but problems ever since. When I try to add more solid foods to my diet I feel sick. My bowel movements seem to be okay. They then did an endoscopy on me. They said I had some strictures in the pipe that leads to my stomach but it was not that bad so they sent me home again. I was also put on cortisone. My incision seems to have healed okay. My stomach is still quite large. I am very weak and have no energy.

HI.
When the colon gets punctures during colonoscopy , minimal contents spread into peritoneal cavity to cause peritonitis. This will give rise to pain and signs of infection and toxicity.
In your case, it was closed in time and healed well. You were lucky.
If not recognized in time, the peritonitis can spread very fast as the colon has loads of bacteria.
You need a good course of an antibiotics.
