What Illness Causes Weak Bones?

a 10 yr old boy had his upper arm broken from a baseball. My friend was told his bone shouldn t have broke that easily and the xray showed some dark spots on the bone. He is being sent to Childrens Hosp for further tests. What are some of the illnesses that could cause the easy break and spots. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Easy fracture of upper arm bone along with black spots on X-ray could be due to some disorder of bone.
Fibrous dysplasia, metaphyseal fibrous defect etc are some of bone disorders wherein the ossification of bone is not complete leading to weak bones.
Clinical assessment along with review of X-ray is required by an orthopedician for definitive diagnosis.
Treatment for the condition can be given once definitive diagnosis is made.

Thanks and take care
