Hello Doctor, My father in law is a heart patient he had his heart attack in 2008 and he also has parkinsons last week he had high fever and we got him admited to the hospital the doctor said its due to urinary infection and they said its because he is bedridden.. Yesterday they did Echo and they said, hear it functioning only 45% what does that mean? could you please help me understand
I guess your are talking about ejection fraction. Normally, it is above 50-55%. Here, it is 45. That means that, heart is able to pump out only 45% of blood reaching it, while a normal heart will pump out 50-70%. Your doctor can give more details.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
