General & Family Physician Dr. Rajath. Pejaver's  Response
Hi, thanks for the question .
Melasma is blotchy, brownish pigmentation on the sun exposed areas, especially face that develops slowly and fades with time. The pigmentation is due to overproduction of melanin by the pigment cells, melanocytes. One should use proper sun screen, avoid harsh skin, change oral contraceptive pills( some can cause measma). Other bleaching techniques are available , for which you must consult a cosmetologist/dermatologist.
Have a healthy life !
