What exactly is Pars Interarticulares Deficit?, 15yr old grandaughter diagnosed with same following horse accident, said to be congenital, also a compressed fracture of L5 ? old # as no pain,had xray & scan, Neurologist feels MRI would not be of any benefit ???, now returning to horse riding [5 weeks post] will not accept advice to fined alternate sport . Dear patient First we have to understand the anatomy of vertebra. Anterior it has body posterior is lamina and spinout process. Laterally is Pedicle and articular processes. Part connecting pedicle and lamina is Pars interarticularis. Now your grand daughter has got defect in Pars interarticularis means fracture in it. This may be due to trauma or congenital. Treatment is rest for 4 weeks and lumbar corset belt. If her pain is not relieved by rest surgery may be required.
