Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Dr. Narasi, I was wondering what has been discovered about Pseudocholinesterase Deficiency and the ability to break down alcohol in one s system. Specifically, if one has this condition, if it is more difficult for the body to break down and metabolize alcohol, especially wine. Thank you, Debbie
There is no relation of pseudocholinesterase deficiency and alcohol breakdown. Alcohol is completely metabolized by a different pathway involving alcohol dehydronase and aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme. Pseudocholinesterase is important for metabolizing some anesthetic agents.
