My sister had a brain annurism two years ago and now she had another one,she is in a coma and has not woke up for two weeks, when looking in her eyes, they see nothing. They are putting a trake in for her breathing Monday and remove the one from her mouth. They said she is having basil spasms,I am not sure what that is,could you clarify?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Basal Spasms, in general, are referred to as the deficient basal endothelial release of Nitrogen oxide and thus causing coronary artery spasm in the heart. But in your case, it seems they are referring to vasospasm in basal ganglia (which regulates our breathing too).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
