What Is A Bruise Below The Knee With A Tender Bump Suggestive Of?

For the last 2 weeks, I ve had a bruise on my leg just below my knee. I found it strange that it took two weeks to start going away. I do not recall doing anything to cause this bruise. Tonight at work, just below this bruise, I noticed a bump with a bruise and it s very tender and has tripled in circumference. It s not normal for me to have bruises unless I ve hurt myself. Should I be worried?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Bruises without any obvious hit and spread along with lump formation has to be worried about.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult your Doctor or at ER immediately to have clinical evaluation, examination and have detailed blood tests including bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombine time, coagulation profile and thus get the cause found or ruled out.
Another reasons can be synovitis and needs an opinion of an Orthopedic Surgeon and if positive further investigations and proper management as per the causes found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
