What Is A Faint Line In The Rapid HIV Test Suggestive Of?

I had a rapid hiv test done at the clinic, it came back with a very faint line a second rapid test also had a very faint line. They took my blood for a confirmation test but the results won t be back for a couple days. I took the swab test from the pharmacy and got a negative result. I have had multiple pregnancies. I did have unprotected sex. Im really freaked out. The clinic nurses said that in most cases tests like mine came back negative. But these next 3 days will be torture.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, they are right, a faint line is many times negative but may be positive. I can understand your situation and this may be quite distressing to wait for the real results.

However you should try to remove your focus from the matter. Good hopes that the test well be negative.

Even if the test is, God forbid, positive, still in these days HIV is quite manageable. Early diagnosis and treatment may give people normal Life span.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
