What Is A Good Amount Of Time To Judge If Fibrillation Is A One Time Problem?
My mom experienced atrial fibrillation for the first time one month ago. Within 4 hours the rate came down and in 12 hours the beat converted back to normal. All of the heart tests were normal, stress test, echocardiogram , kidney function all normal...she was put on a blood thinner called xarelto and a rhythm medication 2 times daily called multaq. she has been in a normal sinus heart rhythm since she converted back one month ago. If this fibrillation was a one time event , she would like to stop these 2 medicines , what is a good amount of time to judge whether this is a one time problem?
Usually your mom should continue with xarelto and multaq for three months. If no arrhythmia than she can quit anticoagulation (xarelto) and begin baby aspirin.
Also after three months she can quit Multaq and start betablockers.
Hope i answered to your query. Dr.Benard
