What Is A Hard Area On Back Of Head Suggestive Of?

I had a small tender spot on the back if my head two weeks ago. It appeared to be infected hair follicles, so I pulled the hairs out. The next day, the area had grown to the size of a marble and was hard. A day or so after, it was the size of a silver dollar and soft, and red. I thought it was infection, so started treating the area with apple cider vinegar, and the area shrunk. It has been about a week of treating the area with Apple cider vinegar, and infection has visibly come from the area. However; the area grows, then gets smaller. Any ideas on what this may be and possible treatments? It is located on the back of my head just above the nape of the neck.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have hard area on back of head . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like sebaceous cyst , localize infection , lipoma or lymph nod swelling . I would suggest you to consult general surgeon for proper examination . Doctor will examine it for tenderness and consistency , take sample for lab test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory . Doctor may remove it surgically under local anesthesia . Doctor may also recommend liposuction in case of lipoma . For now apply warm compresses on it and do not touch or pick it . The symptoms can also occur due to cervical spondylosis , for that consult orthopedic surgeon .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
