What Is A Normal ALT Range?

My AST is 53 and my ALT is 84 after taking a generic form of Lipitor for two months. I was taken off to stop drinking due to my history and retest in two months. My AST and ALT was on the high side before taking the statin drug. One test showed an AST of 36 and ALT of 56. Two questions.....Is this level concerning? How long, in your opinion, would it take to return to normal levels given an excellent diet (thanks to my wife), exercise 2 to 3 days of cardio, no drinking, and not a smoker? My BMI is 29.

Welcome at HCM
I have gone through your query and being your physician I completely understand your health concerns....
Based upon your history it is difficult to pinpoint the diagnosis....what is your age? Are you diabetic? Have you been tested for HCV or HBV infection? Have you done your liver ultrasound?
Do u have fatty liver?
ALT should not be over 40 some labs take its upper value as 44 for males....LFTs should be repeated after two weeks...
You should get fresh LFTs and continue with your lifestyle and meet Hepatologist ....he will examine and will investigate you accordingly...
Have a nice time
Regards
