What Is A Red Bump Below The Left Eye Post An Injury Suggestive Of?

Hello, I recently hit my cheekbone, the area just right below my left eye and now there is a red, but not painful red bump in that affected area. I was playing basketball and I accidently hit the stand of the basketball goal. My glasses may have hut my cheekbone, but there is no pain, just a red bump at the moment. I was wondering if I can just feel my cheekbones for any problems, and also if you guys know if my symptoms are bad. Thank you very much in advance!

Hi,

The red bump below eye post an injury through basketball is indicative of hematoma formation beneath the skin layer involving subcutaneous space. Though it is not of worry some, requires attention to prevent secondary infection and complications. Kindly follow basic measures:
- Ice application 3 times a day for 5 minutes each
- Prescription of antibiotic as cefadroxil or else as per the choice of your GP to fasten the recovery and avoid unnecessary infection sequence
Still if you can provide me a photo pic of the same, further better guidelines can be figured out here.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
