What Is A Sore, Purplish Bump On Left Knee Suggestive Of?

I have a purplish bump on my left knee. I think I ve had it for many years. It might have happened with a fall on our wood floor. Sometimes the purple bump gets larger like it is now. I am not sure if I recently bumped it. It s a bit sore, but not much. I am guessing it is about the size of a dime and when I move my skin around it, it kind of floats. Any suggestions as to what might have caused this to happen?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The bluish purplish bump over left knee with dime size may indicate chronic hematoma changes. A local part ultrasound examination is best recommended for the final diagnosis and further guidelines in that direction. However, a long standing hematoma may require a surgical intervention for cure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
