What Is An Episode Of Double Vision Suggestive Of?

I think I may have had a minor stroke this evening. While watching a DVD with my wife, my vision suddenly went double. I could shut either eye and the vision was single, but when both eyes were open it was double. The double vision lasted about 5-8 minutes, then gradually cleared. I am a very healthy 74 yr old, who is in good physical condition, works out regularly, and eats healthy. Should I see a neurologist?

Hi,

Nerve or muscle damage in the eye might cause double vision. Each eye creates its own image of the environment. The brain combines the representations from each eye and perceives them as one clear picture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera,
