Hi all My hubby had two decaying teeth removed yesterday and has had terrible ringing in his ears throughout the night getting little sleep. This started after he had a bath - could he have somehow perforated his ear drum? Is it worth going to see his doctor or will this just clear up on its own.... Thanks for any advice
Well, tooth extraction is not a cause for ringing in ears, only in case if there is traumatic extraction leading to any injury to jaw joint, however it will also not lead to continuous ringing and there will be ringing only when jaw is moved. Ringing in ears can occur due to causes like ear infection, perforated eardrum, excess ear wax accumulation, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, acoustic neuroma etc.
I would suggest you to consult an otolaryngologist and get him evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like audiometry, X-ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. You can however wait for a day or two, only if it is tolerable to see if the ringing resolves or else get him checked. Once cause is ruled out treatment can be done accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
