What Is Causing Pain After Majority Of My Colon Removed ?

I have had the majority of my colon removed and 1/2 of mt small intestine removed. I suffer from adhesion s that need to be removed every 2-3 years as they get into my liver and pull it out of place. I have been really been having a lot of pain. Yesterday my stomach became distended and very painfuol and today it is worse with a lot of pain. Unfortunately my Dr. is not on call but from my many experiences in the past I should go to the ER, not a favorite place of mine. What are your thoughts. I m in so much pain . Thank you, Sheri Odom

Hi Sheri Odom.
You already know the diagnosis.
The conservative treatment can be helpful many times ; this is as follows::
Nil orally, Nasogatric aspiration to give rest to the intestines so that the edema is reduced , Intravenous fluids, Maintenance of the electrolytes balance,
Within 3 to 5 days you will be fine- Start with water to be followed by liquids only.
I find this answer helpful
