What Is Gardnerella Vaginalis And How Is It Treated?

Hello, I got my results today from a culture that my doctor conducted because of a extremely heavy discharge. As a result the test states I have Gardnerella Vaginalis. The doctor told me it is a STD however, I researched it and from what I research says it's not a STD. Confused!
