Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is My HIV Status If One Test Is Reactive And Others Are Negative?
Hi, I went to donate blood in Oct 2023 and was told Determine was reactive, stat pak and unigold were negative. I tested in other facilities and all three test kits say negative. I returned to the initial facility and result is same as before, determine reactive, others not reactive. What is my status?
These are all HIV rapid test. These may be used in serial- one followed by other. Normally, if Determine is positive, it is to be confirmed by STAT PAK kit. If both are positive or negative, then result may be taken as positive or negative respectively. However, if the results are not similar, as in your case, then Uni-Gold HIV test may be taken as tie breaker as in your case.
As your Uni-Gold HIV test is negative, you may be labelled as negative. Also, as in another facility, all the three are negative, which further authenticate you to be negative for HIV infection. However, Window period for testing must be kept in consideration. 4th generation antibody / antigen test may take up to 90 days to show up for the infection after exposure to infection.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
