Hi,

Serum amylase level measurement would help to know the functioning status of the organ 'pancreas'. It is generally elevated in inflammatory disorders of pancreas called 'pancreatitis'. Most commonly, inflammation of pancreas is caused by intake of alcohol and fatty diet.

Hence, if you are habituated to consumption of alcohol, you need to stop it completely. Over a period of few weeks, your amylase level should be back to normal.

Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further. All the best.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S
