If the sex worker had an active outbreak and the fluid touched a cut/crack on lips, transmission is possible. The worst-case scenario might be a
cold sore if the worker had
herpes, but otherwise, you’re safe. You are advised to wait and watch for symptoms on lips (blisters, sores) in the next 2–3 weeks. Other STIs are unlikely to transmit in this way, since they need mucosal penetration and generally don’t spread from a finger to lips.
If you are having sleepless nights due to
anxiety, then you can have a routine STI check or PEP if required for peace of mind. Statistically speaking, the risk in this situation is extremely low, with only a very small theoretical chance of herpes if there happened to be a cut or broken skin. If blisters, or sores appear in the next 2–3 weeks, please consult a health care professional, you may need
antiviral medications.
