What Is My Scan Result Suggestive Of?

Hello, I had a lump starting in my neck about 5 weeks ago. At first I though of a classic lymph node fighting an infection like it happened before, and knew it would be over in a few days. However the lump kept getting bigger and bigger and reached maybe 7-8 cm long, sub-mandibular. I saw a doctor who gave me antibiotics, did blood test, chest xray and scan. Everything was fine but the lump was described in those therm : A complex mass with solid and cystic components and an irregular peripheral outline is noted in the left submandibular region correlating to the site of swelling. The mass measure approx. 1.89 x 2.15 x 1.28 in dimensions. Peripheral vascularity is noted on color doppler study. After another week with no results from antibiotics, I saw a surgeon who offered to take a sample to analysis. When he did so a lot of pus came out of my neck, under the skin. He said it was good news and took the sample. I was admitted overnight with heavy antibiotics and drain. I started oral antibiotics again after that. The wound was left open so it could keep swelling if needed. This was one week ago. I still have no results from the sample but the lump is getting bigger and has now reached my ear. The central sub-mandibular area is very hard when touched but pain is not too bad. The area under the ear is softer, like full of fluids, and the pain is stronger when touched. Still no news from the Dr. I know I should just wait for the results but I don t know how long it s gonna take and this thing is growing a couple of cm every night. Anything I can do to help while waiting ? Thank you !

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and thanks you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein and I will try to help you as much as I can with my answer.

It is hard to say what it exactly is but considering ct image this is not something that should be ignored and cytologic analysis or biopsy is required since the worst should be ruled out. We hope that this is just swollen lymph node due to infection but malignancy must be considered and in this case it should be surgically removed. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
