Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What is pre pneumonia? I cough but nothing comes up, back across my shoulder blades hurt when I breathe cuts my breath off. Had chest X-ray. Dr office just called and said it showed I have an awesome infiltration of my lung and called it pre pneumonia. Ordered antibiotic and told me to take all of it if I still feel bad come back in and he would order another chest X-ray.
Based on the history you have shared, your symptoms correlate with acute airways infection which can be upper respiratory as well as lower one.
So it's better to rule out based on chest X-ray which in your case didn't show properly developed consolidation or patch in lung fields which could have been termed in pneumonia.
But in the absence of such properly developed findings early infiltrates can be roughly called as pre pneumonia.
However, you may have already improved with antibiotics so a follow-up chest X-ray and repeated chest examination to rule out presence of any crepitations or associated signs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
