What Is Recurring, Painful, Red Spot On Back Upon Pressure Suggestive Of?

What might cause a dime-sized, painful red spot to suddenly appear on my boyfriend s back, near his right shoulder blade, when I rubbed a few inches above it? It immediately disappeared when I released the pressure, then reappeared, when I pressed again. We had been at the drive-in theater. His arm was resting on the passenger window and, when he lowered it, his shoulder started to hurt so badly that we had to leave, because he needed an ibuprofen. The pain migrated to his neck and back, so I tried to relieve it with a massage, when the bizarre, painful red spot started appearing and disappearing. When I pressed near the right side of his spine, a few inches below that, he felt a warm tingle or twinge, that almost itched, but then became something like a tiny muscle cramp, and it reminded him of mild shingles pain. I was going to video tape it but it suddenly hurt too much and we both were afraid it might be some kind of aneurysm. It s not raised or warm at all, and it went away completely, when I stopped massaging. Now we re freaked out. Thanks for any advice you might have.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

As per my surgical experience, the painful red spot on the back with history of excess compression over the area indicates pressure induced tissue damage and early inflammation most likely. It is the tissue hyperemia state that appears upon compression and disappear when pressure is released. There is absolutely no chance of this to be of aneurysm type. Still for better precision guidelines, you are requested to consult him to his family physician for primary assessment and further guidelines for curing safely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
