The causes of osteochondritis are unknown. Some possible causes are genetics, rapid bone growth or poor diet.
Treatments for osteochondritis may vary, and often depend on which bones are involved, normally it is recommended to limit the pressure in the affected place while the disease continues its course. Sometimes a reinforcement or cast may be useful for supporting the bone and limiting bone deterioration. Physical therapy and surgery may be needed to help strengthen the area and repair the damage. In some cases, treatment may not be necessary.
Kind regards,
Dr. Oscar Martinez
