Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You must consult with a sleep specialist who is expert in analyzing your sleep hygiene, evolution of your sleeping problems (from whence they began), and to either FIND or reasonably decipher what the UNDERLYING issue(s) are with your not sleeping. Medications, as you've found, are not going to work for this situation because they will only mask the problem (AT BEST) temporarily and at worst can create a metabolic and physiological environment which will make it very difficult to finally treat you when the reasons for your sleep problems have been worked out. You cannot simply jump from one medication to another as you've been doing and expect to find relief. You are even resorting to the SIDE EFFECTS of medications to put you to sleep which further complicates the picture. Also, you have to have been thoroughly checked for thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and other metabolic parameters. Other identifiable causes of chronic sleep disturbances are issues such as CHRONIC MEDICAL PROBLEMS, Headache disorders, obstructive sleep apnea, REM disorder, PTSD, nightmares, Health anxiety, Generalized Anxiety and these all need to be considered and excluded. My guess is that you need a MULTIDISCIPLINARY team of people to help and you should also be clear on the fact that no QUICK FIX or medication solution is going to suddenly "flick" your sleep switch.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
