Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to find the best way to quit taking Paxil. I have been on it for about 15 years. I was on 40 mg and when I told my doctor that it did not appear to be working any more she gave me a prescription for Celexa 20 mg, said I would probably have some withdrawal from the Paxil and sent me on my way. Within days I was in the emergency crying uncontrollably and barely able to function. The mental health care worker gave me a prescription for Quetiapine Fumarate 25 mg and told me to take one every morning and it should help with the symptoms. After nearly a week of hardly functioning and many hours spent contemplating the ceiling and a whole lot of nothing else I went back to the doctor where the solution was to only take it at night. I have not been to work in more than a week and am lucky to have a patient boss. I have not taken the Quetiapine or the Celexa in 3 days now. In desperation for answers I have since returned to my previous doctor in a neighbouring town. This is a doctor that I very much trust but is really to far away to see regularly. It is my intention to now wean myself off of the Paxil altogether and then re-access the need from there. I would like to be free of the drugs altogether and find a natural solution but I need to have some guidance as to the best procedure so that I can at least feel well enough to return to work while working thru this.
Hello, I know the hell you are in. It really becomes very dreadful coming out of drugs like these, but if you are patient and keen ,it can be done. You cut 10% of the drug and take rest of it for 3 weeks,Again you do it same way and keep doing it. It would definitely take few months, but I assure you that you shall come out of it. Quitting it cold turkey is not the way to come out of it. Thanks
