Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my ex husband tested positive for hsv-1, but negative for hsv-2. i was aware he had cold sores on his mouth at times. i ended up getting tested after giving birth, and was negative for both. the doctors said the only way to accurately test is while an outbreak is happening, and the sore can be swabbed for testing of hsv. should i get tested again?
Well, if you do not have an outbreak of HSV and also you are tested negative then you need not to worry as there is a possibility that you are not infected as if there is no outbreak and you have an infection then you would be positive when tested. So for now you need not to worry. In case if you have an outbreak in future then you can get tested then to get confirmed. As of now, if you want to re-confirm then you can get tested otherwise you need not to get tested again till you get an outbreak.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
