What Is The Brown Discharge In Spite Of Taking Birth Control?

I took PlanB a week before I was to start my period. I took both pills within 12 hours. Now I have brown (dark brown) substance coming out instead of a regular period. One time I will go to the bathroom and it will be brown and the next it will be red. But nothing enough to fill a panty liner. Is it safe to say I got my period?
