What Is The Cause And Remedy For Recurring Periods With Heavy Flow Post Delivery ?
Hi, I have a 10 month old daughter born on 17 May 2011, I started with my periods when she was 7 months old on 30 Dec 2011. But since my second period in 9 Feb 2012 I have very frequent periods, every after 2 weeks. Also the period duration is on 2 weeks. The flow is very heavy as well. If I take oral contraceptive pill (Loette), can it help. Please advice... Thanks in advance.. Poonam
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description it seems that you are having a mild hormonal imbalance causing irregular periods. You can start with oral contraceptive like loette to have a predictable bleeding pattern and lesser blood loss after consulting with your gynecologist.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
Hi Poonam,
Taking oral contraceptives will make your cycles regular and put check on heavy flow.
But after pregnancy because of hormonal imbalance, body takes few months to keep cycles regular.
So again if you are breastfeeding, i will not recommend taking OC pills.
If flow remains heavy and occurs on less interval for few more months; consult gynecologist to start OC pills.
Till then take iron, calcium supplements, eat iron rich food like jaggery , dry fruits, leafy vegetales and fruits.
Take care.
Best regards,
Dr. Neelam.
