Hello,
Multiple
sclerosis commonly occurs due to low vitamin D, smoking, genetics and environmental factors may also play a role. Other factors that may cause it are age, gender, women are more affected than men, family history, immune system attacks the myelin sheath of the nerves. Your friend should get clinically examined and go through all the tests and investigations required like blood tests,
spinal tap, MRI, etc.
Your friend should first get diagnosis confirmed that she / he is suffering from Multiple sclerosis. Multiple sclerosis has no cure, but symptomatic treatment is given depending upon the mild or severe conditions. Symptoms are managed, chances of relapses are reduced by giving the required medicines that may be oral, infectible or infusions. Plasma exchange is also helpful. Therapy is given to help stretch and strengthen muscles to manage leg weakness.
Muscle relaxants,
baclofen help to reduce pain, muscle
stiffness and
spasticity. Anti-
depression medications are given if required. Medications to reduce fatigue. like
amantadine helps to control symptoms. Medicines like dalfampridine is given to increase the walking speed is given. Lifestyle changes like regular exercise, walking, rest, taking a balanced diet and deep breathing exercises to relieve stress helps.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
